ROBERT W. BRENART, OD
Robert Brenart O.D., a long-time resident of Yorkville, IL, is a graduate of Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. He attended Illinois College of Optometry (ICO) where he received his Doctorate in Optometry. Dr. Brenart is Board Certified, American Board of Optometry. He served as class president for two years and National Student Treasurer during his final year. During his tenure at ICO he was a member of the prestigious Gold Key Society. Dr. Brenart has lectured extensively on contact lens and refractive surgery. He is also a member of VOSH-a charitable organization that provides vision care and glasses at no charge to developing countries. He has been part of missions to Columbia, Brazil, Honduras, Chili, Haiti, Peru, Yucatan, Costa Rica, Africa, and several trips to Guatemala. In addition to his mission trips Dr. Brenart is very active in his community. He is currently a member of the Yorkville School Board, District 115, a member of the Yorkville Economic Development Committee, the Yorkville Lions Club and Vice-Chair of the Illinois School District Agency.
Robert Brenart O.D. and his daughter Nicole Zangler O.D. are co-owners of Brenart Eye Clinic. Their motto has always been “quality eye care close to home.” His interests include quality patient care to all. He also enjoys travel and time with his family. Most recently he volunteered for “Climb for Sight” where he raised funds for the children of Guatemala by reaching the summit of Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro.
NICOLE F. ZANGLER, OD
Nicole Zangler, O.D., a Naperville native, is a graduate of Augustana College’s Bachelors of Science program, majoring in both Biology and Spanish. She chose to attend the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO); a school well-known for its long standing history for excellence in modern optometry. During her tenure at PCO, Dr. Zangler received various clinical honors and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Optics and a Doctorate in Optometry. She then completed several internships including Wilkes-Barre VA Hospital in Pennsylvania, Gottlieb Vision Group, with an interest in vision rehabilitation in Georgia, and a Medical Optometry Internship at Laurel Eye Clinic. Her volunteer work has taken her throughout Latin America, where she has provided general optometry to the indigenous population. As an active community member, Nicole Zangler, O.D. participates on the Yorkville Economic Development Committee, the Yorkville Chamber of Commerce, and the Yorkville Lions Club. As a third generation optometrist and co-owner of Brenart Eye Clinic, Nicole Zangler, O.D. practices as an optometrist and is both a member of the American Optometric Association and the Illinois Optometric Association. Her interests include volunteering her optometric services to the Humanities, traveling, and spending time with her husband and two children.
WILLIAM FAGMAN, MD
Dr. William S. Fagman, a Chicago native, attended the University of Wisconsin majoring in zoology. He graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He then attended Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, Illinois and graduated with a doctorate of medicine. Dr. Fagman served his internship in surgery at the Evanston Hospital and then pursued a residency in ophthalmology at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago. During his tenure at Michael Reese he also served as the chief resident in ophthalmology. Dr. Fagman is board certified and a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is also a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the Illinois Association of Ophthalmology. Dr. Fagman joined the staff of the Brenart Eye Clinic as ophthalmologist in 1989. In addition to his expertise in cataract and laser vision surgery, he began performing facial aesthetic procedures in 1996. Dr. Fagman serves as the medical director of Haven, Yorkville’s premier Medical Spa located at the Brenart Eye Clinic. Dr. Fagman began using Botox when it first became available for treatment of medical conditions more than 12 years ago. In addition to Botox he has been using dermal filler injections for facial enhancement and performing facial rejuvenation including laser skin resurfacing for many years.
LISA A. MORRIS, OD
Lisa Morris O.D., a native of Plano, is a graduate of Augustana College’s Bachelor of Arts program. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Biology and Pre-medicine. Upon completion of her B.A. degree Lisa Morris O.D. attended the Illinois College of Optometry (ICO), one of the world’s leading urban optometric institutions serving the Chicagoland community for over 135 years, where she obtained her Doctorate in Optometry. She then completed an externship at the Minneapolis Society For The Blind and obtained certification in Therapeutic later in Orals Therapeutic Certification. As an active member of her community Lisa Morris O.D. participates on both the Board of Directors for the Fox Valley Family YMCA and the Plano Youth Athletic Association. She is also a coach for youth softball and basketball and a member of the First Lutheran Church. Currently Lisa Morris O.D. practices as an optometrist at Brenart Eye Clinic in Yorkville, Illinois and is also member of the American Optometric Association and the Illinois Optometric Association.
MICHAEL E. SPERLAKIS, OD
Michael Sperlakis O.D., a Hinkley-Big Rock native, is a graduate of the University of Iowa’s Bachelors of Science in Biology program. Upon completion of his B.S., he chose to attend the Illinois College of Optometry (ICO); one of the world’s leading urban optometric institutions serving the Chicagoland community for over 135 years. Michael Sperlakis O.D. obtained his Bachelors of Science in Visual Sciences and his Doctorate of Optometry degrees at ICO. Upon graduation from ICO he completed rotations at the Illinois Eye Institute, Sidney Hillman Clinic, Children and Family Eyecare, Gottlieb Hospital and Midwest Eye Physicians. His clinical experiences included emphases in pediatrics and ocular disease. Michael Sperlakis O.D. is an active member of his community and has organized annual charity exam days through the Gift of Sight Foundation and has been a participant for 3 years in the Chicago Children’s Clinic Missions. He currently practices as an optometrist at Brenart Eye Clinic in Yorkville, Illinois with an interest in general optometry.
ROSS W. MLSNA, OD
Ross Mlsna O.D. obtained his undergraduate degree in Biology and Computer Science from Illinois Benedictine College in Lisle, Illinois. Upon completion of his B.S. he attended the Illinois College of Optometry and completed an externship at Fort Sheridan Medical Center and Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind, where upon completion he obtained his Doctorate of Optometry. Ross Mlsna O.D. obtained certification in both Therapeutics and Oral Medications.
MELISSA SPOULA, OD
Melissa Spoula, OD, a Batavia native, received her Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Illinois. Dr. Spoula earned her Doctorate of Optometry degree, with honors, from Illinois College of Optometry (ICO) in 2015.
During her optometric education Dr. Spoula completed externships at McCormick Vision Source in Austin, TX that included Primary Care and Contact Lens rotation. She also had an Advanced Care externship at the Illinois Eye Institute in Chicago. Dr. Spoula was in Topeka, KS for a Primary Care and Pediatric Vision rotation, as well as a Medical Optometry rotation at the Wyoming, MI – VA Healthcare Center.
Her clinical experiences include emphasis in specialty contact lens fitting and ocular disease, with an interest in general optometry.
During her Doctorate studies Dr. Spoula was a member of the Tomb and Key, and Beta Sigma Kappa honors societies.
Melissa Spoula, OD is licensed to practice Optometry by the State Examining Boards of Illinois. She is a member of the Illinois Optometric Association, American Optometric Association and the American Academy of Optometry.
In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, and is a volunteer at the PAWS Chicago no-kill animal shelter.
TONYA TIRA, OD
Dr. Tonya Tira joins Brenart Eye Clinic with over ten years of optometric eye care experience, including specialty training in pediatric optometry and vision rehabilitation following brain injury. She earned her undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Alberta in Canada in 2001 and her Doctor of Optometry degree from Illinois College of Optometry in 2005. Her clinical internships were completed at the Illinois Eye Institute in Chicago, Newington VA Medical Center in Connecticut, Barnet-Dulaney-Perkins Eye Center in Arizona, and North Suburban Vision Consultants in Deerfield, IL. After practicing general optometry in the Chicago area for five years, she went on to complete a residency in Vision Therapy, Rehabilitation, and Pediatric Optometry at Pacific University College of Optometry in Oregon.
Following residency, Dr. Tira spent four years in private practice in Richmond, Virginia, where she enjoyed seeing patients of all ages for both routine comprehensive and specialty eye exams, and became known in the community for providing pediatric and traumatic brain injury rehabilitation vision care. She is dedicated to helping children and adults who struggle with visual difficulties, including individuals with concussions, learning related vision problems, and special needs. While practicing in Virginia, she served as Co-Clinical Director for the Special Olympics Opening Eyes program and as Secretary-Treasurer of the Richmond Optometric Association. In 2014, Dr. Tira became a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. She has been a continuous member of the American Optometric Association since 2001. In her free time, Dr. Tira enjoys yoga and travel. She and her husband, Greg, a native of Coal City, IL, are excited to return to Illinois to raise their daughter near family.
ROB F. BRENART, OD
Rob Brenart, OD, a Yorkville native, received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from the University of Chicago.
After working many years in the software industry, and volunteering with his father and sister at Remote Area Medical, and other vision care events, he returned to school to achieve his Doctorate of Optometry.
He graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry, with honors, in 2017.
While at ICO he was a member of the Tomb and Key and Beta Sigma Kappa honors societies, was a student representative for the American Optometric Student Association, and received his student fellowship for the American Academy of Optometry.
During his Doctorate studies, he completed externships at The Alfred and Sarah Rosenbloom Center on Vision and Aging, The Jesse Brown V.A. Hospital, and the Eye Specialist Center.
He practices general optometry, with a particular focus on ocular disease.
Dr. Rob has recently returned to Yorkville with his wife Heather and son Matt. They have also welcomed Matt’s baby brother, Benjamin, to their family.
SAMRA W. HASHMI, MD
Board certified ophthalmologist and member of the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Samra W. Hashmi, a partner of Spectrum Eye Institute, specializes in intraocular lens implant surgery, corneal transplant surgery and refractive or laser vision corrective surgery for nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.
Dr. Hashmi completed her residency in Ophthalmology, at the Medical College of Georgia in 2001. Prior to her residency she did a research fellowship in Cornea and External Diseases at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary in New York City. She went on to complete her Fellowship in Refractive Surgery and Cornea in 2003, at the premier Cole Eye Institute, Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
Dr. Hashmi has been in private practice since 2004. She performs small incision cataract surgery with all the premium implants including toric and multi-focal implants using the current no-stitch, no-patch technique. She is one of the few fellowship trained surgeons performing laser vision correction / LASIK surgery in the area. She has performed thousands of surgeries over the years.
Samra Hashmi MD is a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. Dr. Hashmi has been active in ophthalmic research and participated in various FDA clinical trials. Her work has been published in professional peer-reviewed medical journals and clinical textbooks.
In her free time Dr. Hashmi enjoys spending time with her husband Nashib, a nephrologist and their three children. She is active in the community and her hobbies include traveling and reading books.
MAJID RASSOULI, DO
Dr. Rassouli, a partner of Spectrum Eye Institute, attended Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine from 1994 – 1998. He received his Bachelor of Science (Microbiology) in 1991, from the University of Washington.
His Postgraduate training included an internship at Henry Ford hospital/Bi-County Community Hospital in Michigan. Dr. Rassouli completed his residency at Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine/Midwestern University from 1999 – 2002. He completed his Cornea and Refractive Surgery Fellowship in 2003 at the University of Illinois, Chicago. Dr. Rassouli performs cataract surgery with multifocal implants using the most current no stitch, no patch method.
Dr. Rassouli is Board Certified by the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is also affiliated with the following professional organizations:

JOHN M. GALASSO, MD
Dr. Galasso joined Retina Consultants after his vitreoretinal fellowship at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary. He authored numerous articles in peer reviewed journals and contributed a book chapter on inflammatory mediators in the brain. He has completed his doctorate in Neuroscience at the University of Michigan. His clinical interests include ocular trauma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, pediatric retinal disease, and retinal detachment.
